Kris Brandhagen is an artist who makes self-reflexive work in the area of stop-motion animation.  To expand on Brandhagen’s art projects, which are self-portrait (would be) flip-books and/or projections, with titles like Naked, Dancing, Framing a Photograph, More Torque, and Notes on Getting Over Her, etcetera, it is possible to discern that Brandhagen is interested in sharing whatever she wants most to hide.  There is a preoccupation in photography to ‘ready’ the subject for photograph taking—in these personal projects it is important to note that with one obvious exception (Naked), the subject (Brandhagen) always appears in the images ‘as is’ without any changing of clothes, powdering, primping, hair-doing; what Brandhagen is trying to do is ‘catch’ herself, convey herself, in the purity of the moment.  Notes on Getting Over Her is the only such project that she has made available to the public, it can be found at https://brandphotography.wordpress.com/ under the “Personal Projects” tab.  She has had two solo exhibitions, and participated in a number of group shows.

Also a writer, her written work defies genre, incorporating poetry with narrative, fictional elements, and images.  Currently, she is at the beginning of her third manuscript, with samples of the previous two out for consideration.  Brandhagen was awarded a Saskatchewan Arts Board grant to complete her first manuscript, Jennifer.  She is nearing completion of her second manuscript, Letters to a Young Player.  As well as creative writing, Brandhagen has a history in journalism and criticism, has participated in numerous writing workshops, and given several performances of her work.

Brandhagen does commissions and commercial photography contracts as Brand Photography.  Investigations Toward a Cohesive Portfolio is her website (address listed above), where one can find black and white travel pictures (places), abstract color images (corporate art), events, art documentation, people, flora and fauna, as well as food.
